Indy has had an unusually active early concert schedule. But March is traditionally when the calendar explodes, and this year is no different. The weather will be getting better, so you have no excuses for not getting off the couch. Here are some of the notable big shows worth checking out:

Tuesday, March 4 – Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings at The Vogue — Jones has been known to put on some legendary performances. This one promises to be no different. It’s going to be a hot night at the Vogue.

Wednesday, March 5 – Cayucas at Radio Radio — Indie pop at its best. California band Cayucas pulls from some of the best sounds of the 60s to create something new and memorable. Fans of the Beach Boys, Real Estate, and Ra Ra Riot take note.

Friday, March 7 – Water Liars at Do317 Lounge — Free First Friday show with this incredible band. Like the ragged glory of Neil Young? Get here.

Friday, March 7 – Yacht Rock Review at The Vogue — This is going to be a great time. Kicking out the best of the 70s and 80s yacht rock — Christopher Cross, Robbie Dupree, Player — you get the idea. A fun night guaranteed.

Monday, March 10 – Young the Giant at Old National Centre — YtG put on an intimate show here a few months back; this one promises to be more widescreen.

Tuesday, March 18 — Miniature Tigers & Bear Hands at Radio Radio — Incredible bill. Bear Hands just delivered their amazing new album; Miniature Tigers are a fantastic indie pop band due for another release this year.

Wednesday, March 19 — Rathborne at Do317 Lounge — Lo-fi indie pop with personality. You’ll want to check out this up-and-coming artist.

Saturday, March 22 – Two Cow Garage at Do317 Lounge — Cranked-up, fuzzed-out alt country. Get sweaty.

Tuesday, March 25 – Drive-By Truckers & Blitzen Trapper at The Vogue — INCREDIBLE SHOW. DBTs new record, English Oceans, drops this month. And Blitzen Trapper is opening? The ROCK show of March.

Thursday, March 27 – Neutral Milk Hotel w/ Elf Power at Old National Centre — Yes, it’s sold out but it must be noted because it’s so anticipated. If you can find a way to get there, do so. NMH’s In the Aeroplane is still one of the all-time great records.

Friday, March 28 – Rhett Miller at Radio Radio — Old 97s front man has put out several terrific solo albums. RR’s a great venue for this one.

Enough for you? There’s plenty more not mentioned. Just get out.

What’s on your agenda?
