Curtis Harding’s debut, Soul Power, was released a few weeks back but just this week got the vinyl treatment. Harding has worked with Cee Lo and Outkast, and Soul Power shows he knows his way around vintage R&B. But what makes the record stand out is the nuance and control. Harding’s not interested in blowing the doors off, even though he could, or simply regurgitating old soul tropes. With Soul Power, he’s landed on something more organic, pulling inspiration from the past but giving it a modern feel. This album deserves a vinyl audience. Highly recommended.
