Sometimes Life Gets in the Way – Shows for the End of September

Yeah, still here. Anyone who says summer is a time to catch up is either lying or not that busy to begin with, because I’ve been swamped. Two shows in the past 6 weeks, which is way, way below average. Going to try and gain some balance with the following (note: If you’re in Bloomington through the end of the month, several hot ones down there, too):

Wednesday, September 16 – Josh Rouse at the HiFi — I last saw Rouse during the 1972 tour, an album which remains one of my all-time favorites. Looking forward to hearing tracks old and new.

Friday, September 18 – Father John Misty at ONC — Two great albums and a dynamic performer. Caught Father John last in Bloomington. Should be another killer performance.

Saturday, September 19 – Pugwash at the Warehouse — Never thought I’d see these Irish power-pop legends live. Their new album is outstanding. First time in Indiana. My wife is going, and that never happens. Can’t wait.

Wednesday, September 23 – Nate Reuss at ONC — The leader of fun out touring his recent solo record. What makes this one intriguing is the chance to hear songs from his Format days. Dog Problems is still one of the best pop albums of all time.

Thursday, September 24 – Queensryche at The Vogue — No Geoff Tate, but you can hardly tell. One of my most memorable shows as a teenager was the Empire tour at the Miami Arena. Operation:Mindcrime in its entirety. Memories. Time to catch up.

Saturday, September 26 – Dan Deacon at the HiFi – Party

Tuesday, September 29 – The Decemberists at ONC — The band’s last show was cancelled, so we’ve had to wait about 4 years for a return. New EP is just about to drop and latest full-length was excellent. Should be a good one.

What shows are you hitting?
